Volunteer opportunities with IUHRDF

IUHRDF seeks two volunteers to supports it programs in Washington, DC:

1.     Research: Volunteer will assist the project director by researching Uyghur human rights issues.

 

Responsibilities include conducting research online; updating website weekly with relevant news articles and other publications related to Uyghur human rights; writing weekly briefs or summaries of news and events related to Uyghur human rights; and updating project director on activities in a timely manner.

 

This is an opportunity for the volunteer to learn about human rights advocacy and Uyghur human rights issues while strengthening his or her online research skills and critical thinking abilities.

 

The ideal volunteer will be committed to the mission of IUHRDF and exhibit strong reading, writing, critical thinking, research and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Volunteer must commit three-four hours per week for a minimum of three months.

 

2.     Advocacy &Outreach: Volunteer will assist the project director with human rights advocacy and program outreach.

 

Responsibilities include helping the project director develop and implement advocacy and outreach strategies; updating electronic database of contacts; writing and designing material for information awareness campaigns; assisting project director with outreach to legislators and nonprofit organizations; and updating project director on activities in a timely manner.

 

This is an opportunity for the volunteer to learn about human rights advocacy and Uyghur human rights issues while strengthening his or her interpersonal communication, organizational and advocacy skills.

 

The ideal volunteer will be committed to the mission of IUHRDF and exhibit strong reading, writing, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Volunteer must commit three-four hours per week for a minimum of three months.

Requirements:

Volunteers must have a high school diploma, be fluent in English (Uyghur proficiency a plus) and have strong writing and communication skills. No compensation.

The internship is unpaid but reasonable transportation costs will be covered.
