Since concentration camps were built in East Turkistan (the “Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region”) in 2017, journalists, activists, politicians, and public figures in the Western world have been the among the first to discover this crime, speak out and expose it to the world , holding China. to account.
Dozens of Western media outlets, including the Washington Post and the New York Times, have issued back-to-back editorials declaring that this tragedy – the holding of over a million Uyghur Muslims in camps – cannot be overlooked. Numerous statesmen, including United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, US Senator Marco Rubio, and French President Emmanuel Macron, have strongly condemned China and called on the world to work together to fight this genocide. Religious leader Pope Francis and footballer Antoine Griezmann both broke their silence and spoke the truth when they realized the seriousness of the Uyghurs’ situation.
The true happiness of the Christmas holiday belongs to conscientious people: those who take a stand and respond to the tragedies currently taking place in our world. In other words, religious and national holidays are a right that belongs only to human beings that fulfill their civic responsibilities!
I sincerely congratulate all our friends and supporters in the Western world who have been helping and campaigning for the Uyghur cause. We wish them everlasting peace and happiness.
Rebiya Kadeer, leader of the Uyghur National Movement.
